Senor's First Camping Trip

In the land of Huskies and Labs we have taken our fair share of ridicule that we now have a "purse dog". (thanks for coining that phrase Matt!) It seems that not everyone shares our enthusiasm about our new family addition. However, being the outdoor people we are we can understand why, so we just laugh at ourselves and move on. This weekend provided our first opportunity to really take Senor out into our element, what we learned...it's safe to say that there is no lab in him! :) Paul had a fishing charter this weekend and so we were excited to fire up the camper and head out to the Kenai Peninsula...our home away from home during the summer. Senor did awesome on the car ride. Paul and I were making fun of the fact that as soon as he got in he fell right to sleep. All in all the camper experience was great for him. And realistically, it's like a mini house, so of course it would be great for our mini dog! :) Well, it didn't take us long the next day to see the pitfalls of a little dog. As Paul was getting ready for the trip we had Senor out walking around, and one of the other members pointed out an eagle sitting in the tree. We realized that wherever Senor went so did the eagle's eyes. So from then on we were panicked that an eagle would swoop down and have a Senor snack. (if you think that's untrue it actually happened to a vacationing couple in Denali national park several years back) While Paul was out on the boat, I took Senor to the beach...he was less than impressed. Although I thought it was awesome to see the boats getting pulled in and to sit by the ocean, he was less enthusiastic, and perfectly content to sit in my hood and sleep. When the guys brought the fish back they had been really successful and limited out on Halibut, including one 95 pounder. We put Senor next to it for a quick photo and he freaked out...oh well, I guess we have a lot of training to do before he becomes a fish slayer...
